and clients.
Company History
ICU
Promotion + Management was the brainchild of Munich born Matt Streitel and was
founded in late 1993/1994. Working over years in the computer multimedia and entertainment
industry in Germany, Streitel quickly discovered a market niche in the US where
the electronic music industry was still in its infancy. ICU was originally
developed to provide talent management, club promotion and music production for
West Coast artists, but after realizing a nationwide need for proper US
representation, ICU was able to expand in 1996 to manage top international
artists such as UK’s legendary Producer, Remixer and DJ Carl Cox, voted for
many years as the best DJ in the world, Joe T. Vannelli, till today, Italy's most famous
dance music producer, remixer and DJ (several # 1 chart hits) as well as
Holland's #1 DJ and Producer Dimitri.
In the years to come, ICU signed on to their management company
additional talent such as Americas’ icons Kimball Collins and Jon Bishop as
well as UK’s mix masters Tidy Boy's and Grant Plant to name a few. ICU
managed to put together a seventy-five city nationwide record release tour (ICU
Generation Trance) for Kimball Collins, which later resulted in Kimball
Collins becoming America's #1 Trance music DJ.
ICU has also been recognized as an artist resource for
promotional organizations around the world. Building on a strong professional
reputation has given ICU the ability to organize worldwide tours for its own
talent as well as providing additional tours for top-notch international artists
such as Grammy winner Frankie Knuckles and David Morales, Carl Cox, CJ Macintosh,
Doc Martin and Tony De Vit to name but a few.
As a powerful promotional team, ICU has the capacity to organize
an array of outstanding events. Organizing over two hundred fifty of its own
events in five years illustrates ICU's tremendous promotional capability in the
industry. On a weekly basis, ICU promoted the strongest and longest running
dance music club in Los Angeles, "LOGIC" (1994-1998). Club LOGIC was
one of the forefathers of electronic dance music in Los Angeles and has received
worldwide recognition by inviting and working with the crème de la crème of
the European and American DJ talent. Early on in 1996, the companies web site
was launched, making ICU the first Artist Management + Promotion company in the
US to make use of the worldwide web to present our artists to cyberspace and
it's potentials. In 1997, ICU collaborated with "Rave Network" to
start the very first weekly club in America to cybercast live every weekend from
the club on the Internet. At the same time, ICU teamed up with Los Angeles'
famous local radio station "Groove FM 103.1" to broadcast live from
the club every Sunday.
ICU succeeded in creating and organizing unique special events
such as for the WMC in Miami starting as early as 1996, the Global DJ Mix Awards
Boat Parties in San Francisco (1997/1998), the first Winter Music Conference
Boat Party in Miami (1999) as well as sponsoring and supporting several good
cause Benefit events such as the Los Angeles Aids Benefit @ Universal Studios,
Soul 99 - Hunger Benefit / Los Angeles and endless other special events hosting
guests from 300 to 10,000+ people. As
of today, ICU proudly produced and put together over 250 solid events working
with some of the best talent in the world such as Sasha & John Digweed, Paul
van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Daft Punk, Deep Dish and many more.
As time moved forward, ICU saw a new potential for growth in the
now quickly developing dance music market and determined it was the proper time
to incorporate its own electronic record label division.
Matt Streitel created ICU Records, which is the dance music label
division of the company, releasing primarily records on vinyl. Since 1999,
however, ICU achieved distribution of primarily CD mix compilations via
Universal Music Group. Having the necessary resources and right contacts to some
of the most sought after artists in the dance music industry has made this step
a complimentary business move. Within the first business year of releasing CD
compilations, selling nationwide over 50,000 copies, ICU Records became one of
the best, if not the best up and coming electronic dance music label in America.
Some of ICU's release highlights were to archive rank #102 on America's
"Tower Records" top 1000 list, rank #8 on "Soundscan",
America's official weekly electronic music sales chart, rank #374 on "Amazon.com",
which has over 250.000 products in their catalog. With the success of their
popular "International Club Union" series, a DJ based compilation
series integrating their own artists as well as ICU's "Clubnights"
series, featuring a collection of the best international DJs spinning live at
their resident club and ICU's "Generation Trance 2000 Series", a
collection of Europe's and America's best Anthems, ICU has shown once again
their impact in the growing electronic dance music market in America. In
February 2000’s edition of UK’s prestige Music Magazine “MixMag”, one of
the leading publication in the global dance music industry, two of ICU’s
artists, Jon Bishop (rank 4) and Mark Lewis (rank 9), were featured on the top
ten list of who, according to the magazine’s sources, will be the most
successful DJs in the world by the end of the year 2000.
By the end of 2001, the firms third year of selling electronic
music, ICU has managed to reach our sells goal of selling over 350,000 music CD
compilations and becoming America's fifth best selling electronic
music label. Between 2002 and today ICU is focusing on expanding the company within the
US market and seeking partnerships in Europe and Asia to continue our dream to become
one of the best in the business.
Utilizing resources such as its very popular website, publication
in major dance music magazines and established business contacts both national
and internationally has made ICU to one of the strongest and respected
management, promotional and now electronic dance music record companies in
America. ICU’s goal is to provide its clientele with the highest quality
service and product. Our strength lies in our ability to find world-class talent
and growth potential in the now expanding international dance music market. We
have based our foundation on trust and continued dedication to our employees,
artists and clients.
ICU
plans an exciting and prosperous new Millennium that will reflect the hard work
and talent of their team.
ICU's motto is:
" If you work with the best, you become one of the best
"
